My name is Evan, and welcome to my portfolio and blog website, called "Magic Pictures" - a name sprung from a fusion of media literacy together with a combination of programming, design and production skills.  I  have been designing and programming/developing  since taking Interactive Multimedia at Algonquin College in 2006-2007.

Before that I had completed a Bachelor's degree in Communication from the University of Ottawa, where I studied issues regarding media and human interaction.  Around graduation I was enamored with Adobe Flash and developed skills in object-oriented programming with the ActionScript 3.0 language.

Other markup and scripting languages include ActionScript 2.0, XML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.  As well, I obtained the A.C.E. (Adobe Certified Expert) credential for Flash CS3 in 2009.

During my employment in the IT department at iTTUKKi Corp. (2008-2009) I was responsible for everything client-side there, including graphics, custom XHTML/CSS templates, front end login site, payment and contact forms.  And there were online health and safetytraining and assessment tools which were programmed in Actionscript and involved use of several Actionscript APIs.  I also worked with some things on the server side including use of classic ASP, PHP, and CURL in relation to iTTUKKi's e-commerce.

Over the next couple of years (2009-2011)  I was under contract as an external developer working as part of a team on the Connect product for McGraw-Hill Ryerson, the educational textbook publishing giant in Whitby.  The work revolved around  the open source Learning Content  Management System (LCMS) called Moodle which is programmed in PHP.  Connect is a web-based study program that includes an eBook, chapter quizzes and interactive learning tool and is used by post secondary instructors and students nation wide.  My main responsibility  was an Assignment creation and editing tool within Connect dubbed the Assignment Builder.  The javascript framework jQuery along with PHP was used to program the Assignment Builder and I became well versed with both, especially jQuery.

Please take a peek at my portfolio for a more detailed look at some of my past work.
